چکیده
AIM The purpose of this study was the 3D reconstruction of six teeth with morphological peculiarities using serial cross-sections. METHODOLOGY All the teeth were put in 3% NaOCl solution after extraction, washed under running water and air-dried. They were then embedded in a two-phase polyester resin and serial cross-sections were produced from each specimen using a special microtome. The thickness of each section was 0.75 mm. Each section was photographed under a stereoscopic microscope. The photographs of the cross-sections were digitized and the external contours of the teeth and the root-canal outline were annotated for each section. Semiautomatic alignment of the sections was achieved with the use of image-processing techniques. Three dimensional surface representation was used in this project to reconstruct the inner and outer surface of the teeth. RESULTS The results showed in detail the internal morphology of the teeth under investigation. The fact that it was possible to observe and study these teeth from different angles is one of the main advantages of this method as the three dimensional anatomy of these teeth was apparent. CONCLUSIONS The 3D reconstructing method is a useful tool for the study of the morphology of the teeth.

متن کاملStatistical shape model reconstruction with sparse anomalous deformations: Application to intervertebral disc herniation
Many medical image processing techniques rely on accurate shape modeling of anatomical features. The presence of shape abnormalities challenges traditional processing algorithms based on strong morphological priors. In this work, a sparse shape reconstruction from a statistical shape model is presented. It combines the advantages of traditional statistical shape models (defining a 'normal' shap...

Developing a Computer Aided Diagnosis (CAD) system for Breast Ultrasound (BUS) is a high exigent work in medical imaging analysis systems. BUS detects abnormalities or suspicious regions accurately that is misspelled by mammogram, and helps to find the varying degrees of malignancy. Extracting discriminating features in CAD is a most prominent task that results in good diagnosis. This study ana...

This study explored a method for fabricating removable complete denture aided by CAD&RP technology. 3D crossing section scanner and laser scanner were respectively applied to obtain the surface data of artificial teeth, edentulous models and rims made in clinic. The vertical and horizontal relations of models were recorded before scanning with a special device. A 3D graphic database of artifici...
متن کاملSimilarity measure for quality control of dental CAD/CAM-applications
There is no measure for morphometric quality control of dental CAD/CAM-restorations as well as for evaluation of newly developed CAD/CAM-applications. The aim of this study was to (a) establish a 3D-measure for morphological comparisons, (b) to proof its metrical and subjective-visual validity and (c) to explore morphological features which have relevant impact on visual perception. 125 maxilla...
